Roundabout – Taylor Road (MR 46) and Cedar Lane (Town of Bracebridge) – District Municipality of Muskoka

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Triton provided the engineering services for Muskoka’s first roundabout, at the intersection of Taylor Road and Cedar Lane. The project improved intersection operations while maintaining traffic flows on Taylor Road. The work included curb, gutter and storm sewers, sidewalk construction and street lighting. This assignment included preliminary and detail design, and contract administration. Public education was provided through an open house and the preparation of a brochure. Throughout construction, traffic was managed to accommodate the intersection re-configuration on this busy roadway.

Reconstruction of Muskoka Road 46 (Bonnie Lake Road) – District Municipality of Muskoka

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project involved the full reconstruction of 5.0km of Bonnie Lake Road (Muskoka Road 46) from MR 117 northerly, to a two lane rural standard. The work involved horizontal and vertical re-alignment, involving property acquisition and utility relocation. The project design included numerous constraints, with the design being developed to minimize impact on properties. The project included Preliminary and Detail Design and a Schedule “C” Class Environmental Assessment including preparation of an Environmental Study Report. Triton also carried out the contract administration and inspection.

Hoc Roc River Bridge Rehabilitation (District of Muskoka)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The District of Muskoka undertook the rehabilitation of a pre-stressed precast concrete box girder bridge spanning 20.1m over the Hoc Roc River, near Gravenhurst. The work included the construction of a temporary detour comprising a 21.3m temporary modular bridge to maintain traffic to the Sands resort. The bridge rehabilitation design included conversion of the bridge to a semi-integral abutment type bridge to eliminate the expansion joints, substructure repairs, and modification of the railing system to meet current standards.

  • Obtaining authorization for the work from DFO and Transport Canada (Navigable Waters), including development of a fish habitat compensation plan

Pedestrian Bridge at Bissell Park, Elora (Township of Centre Wellington)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The former Village of Elora undertook the construction of a pedestrian bridge crossing the Grand River at Bissel Park. The project comprised the planning, design, and construction of a 60m x 2.4m single span prefabricated steel box truss pedestrian bridge across the Grand River, at a new location, and elevated substructure and approaches in accordance with a Schedule “B” Environmental Assessment. The project also included illumination of the bridge and approaches, reinforced concrete abutments extending 4.0m above water level and landscaping of the adjacent park.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The work comprises of the rehabilitation of Structure 21-P, Eighth Line West, former Township of Pilkington, in the Township of Centre Wellington as follows:

  • Traffic control
  • Removal of concrete superstructure
  • Partial removal of substructure components
  • Partial reconstruction of substructure
  • Replacement of superstructure with steel girders and reinforced concrete deck complete with new concrete barriers, approach guide rails, hot mix asphalt paving and bridge deck waterproofing
  • Project was constructed in 2016 at a cost of $550,000
